Ironic really, The President of the United States is not considered sane and stable enough to operate a twitter account....but the nuclear football, that's just fine.

I considered setting up an account at Parler but they require a cell phone number in addition to a valid email address.

Dafuq? Why would they need that?

Anyway... if they ever change that req I'll consider it again, maybe.

Securing infrastrusture? You mean like their own dedicated domain registrar, internet backbone and the PCs and phones capable of accessing it?

Sounds like a lot of work to me, but I'm sympathetic to your suggestion Vit. After all, if you can steal control of the world's economy by thieving an entire country's vote, why shouldn't you be allowed to steal the entire internet along with it? Sounds perfectly reasonable.

        Ya peanut.

No you're right... the best way forward is obviously relying on the very system and infrastructure that out of the other side of our mouths we decry as corrupt and unfair. Makes perfect sense. If, that is, we're really only interested in exploiting a customer base, not building a secure and sustainable alternative to the status quo. They're either fine with current conditions as long as they can make a buck or they're not.

Besides it doesn't look like the existing system wants Parler riding its coattails anymore; Parler may not have a lot of choices other than putting its money where its rhetoric is.

You know, I just watched a news story about an hour ago which claimed that Apple and Amazon had banned "Parlor" (the news service corrected the spelling on the ticker halfway through the report). Strangely enough, I had Parler open on my smartphone at the time. For a banned service, it seemed to be performing unreasonably well, in spite of everything.

This shit has been tried before, it has always failed. It failed against Bitchute, it failed against Gab, it failed against Subscrbestar, it's now failed against Parler. Forgive me if I thumb my nose at the hegemony of your all-powerful vertical monopoly and its dogged insistence that it not be held to the same legal standards and anti-trust laws. I don't see you putting up your hard-earned to set up a completely independent infrastructure, but you're going to tell me that it is incumbent on one Twatter clone to do so?

I don't believe it is. The world wide web was NOT created just so Bezos could come in and take it over as his personal plaything. If he doesn't want to do business with John Matze, well and good, but he doesn't get to collude with Tim Cook and kick Parler and its users off the whole of the world wide web, not unless he is going to buy it legitimately outright and sorry, US law doesn't allow him to do that. As rich as he is, I doubt he could afford it anyway.

Parler is on its new servers. It is working just fine without Bezos and Cook's involvement. Tell those grasping cunts to find someone else to kick out of their establishment echo chamber, they'll be welcome to join Parler as well... as long as they play by PARLER'S rules and not the ones arbitrarily set by the weak pricks who washed their hands of them.

I've noticed a definite slow down of alt tech sites on and off since the riots of last week. Bitchute has taken a performance hit and buffers often on my various devices, Parler seems a little sluggish too. Mainstream sites appear to be unaffected...

I wonder if we will be hearing stories about Tier 1 providers being added to the vertical monopoly that is Sillycunt Valley in the coming weeks.

If by "far right" you mean "anyone Twatter disagrees with" then the answer is an unequivocal "fuck yeah".

We saw the same thing happen with Bitchute actually. To be fair, there were a few on there that might rightly be considered "far right" but the strongest membership base there belongs to a libertarian and his nearest rival is a classical liberal. If that is "far right" then god help the world going forwards.

Alt right accusations are merely a scaremongering tactic. Normie-internet is petrified they'll be associated with the Fourth Reich and have to answer for it among polite society, little realising that polite society has become more authoritarian than Hitler and his cronies ever were, or that nazis were utterly destroyed as a thing in the mid 1900s and consigned to boogyman status. I personally don't give a fuck myself, the ideology might have survived as communism and other authoritarian forms did, but I am adult enough to hear these ideas expressed and cherrypick my way through them, discarding much of what I find since it simply does not work for me.

And that runs completely counter to the authoritarian ideal. An authoritarian cannot handle the idea of individualism; to them the world is a sheep pen that needs be governed, preferably under their auspices. That's more or less why you get dickheads like Homo insisting anyone with anything nice to say about Trump must by definition consider him their leader. You can stop right there (most people don't) and ask yourself if his assertion is in fact true. If you can determine for yourself that it is not in fact true, it's around about that point you can realise his accusations say more about him than they do about yourself.

In terms of what this means for places like Parler, the platform becomes what you make of it. Assume for a moment that even if it was wall to wall jackbooted nazis, "so fucking what"? Could they compel you to be one too? Authoritarians on the left would be quick to assure you that "yes, absolutely yes"... but again this is speaking more to how they are used to running society. I've just had four years worth of "russians stole the 2016 election"... I knew it was bullcrap inside of six months, long before Robert Mueller declared he had absolutely no evidence to support the case, yet to this day we have people still willing to entertain the idea it was. They sure as hell aren't gettiing that idea from Parler.

So who is the bigger threat? I've been boots on the ground in Parler, when I joined it mid last year its most visible contributors were people who the hate mobs had kicked out of Big Tech under the auspices they were "alt-right", but as I am endowed with a brain and the ability to use it, I can look for myself and draw my own conclusions. And the answer I keep coming up with is that the crowds I see amassing there are no more than the vast preponderance of political alignments that do NOT fall under the authoritarian socialist banner. Additionally (and this is perhaps the most horrifying for the clots running Twatter) there also appears to be a groundswell of support of those who are simply uninterested in the political and who are simply getting the fuck out of Dodge before the Twatter Hate Mobs come for them, their jobs, their back accounts etc. for no reason other than they misgendered an attack helicopter five yeas ago... or expressed a liking for a particular flavour of Doritos that reminded someone else of the President or something equally ridiculous.

Parler is not alt-right, though you can surely find that sort of expressionalism there if you really go digging for it. Parler is as Fecesbook and Twatter was before the Tumblr crowd got its hooks into it. You will find a wider array of opinions expressed and it is wholly up to you if you take those opinions as your own or utterly discard them as surplus to your requirements. No jackbooted thugs are going to show up on yours or your boss's doorstep demanding you be removed from society and provided you are not engaging in anything illegal in your use of the service, Parler itself is not going to kick you out.

I find that to be a much more agreeable state of affairs than what mainstream tech demands and have voted with my feet accordingly.

      Oh... and Vitty...

I understand what you are saying here, I had the same problem... on steroids... with Fecesbook last year. When I went to log in after an extended absence, the autobots flagged me as having logged in from a different location and wanted to send a confirmation code to my cellphone. Which they had required I give them while I was in Canada, along with five names off my friends list for the purposes of establishing myself as the true and rightful operator of the account. An account which they insisted be made under my legal name. "Dafuq? Why would they need that?"

One small problem; I am no longer in Canada, I haven't been since I flew to San Fran in April, that phone number is no longer maintained by me so there's no chance of sending me a confirmation code via it. And the five names from my friends list? The ones Fecesbook told me I could use to establish my identity should I ever find myself locked out of my own named account? They aren't interested at all in that, and the ability to send a confirmation code to my email (which they can and have done) is not enough for them.

They want real world documents. Birth certificate, drivers license, bank accounts and so on. Stuff I've never provided them previously, so it's not as though they would have copies of them on file and I am not in any hurry to change that. Fuck them.

So my Fecesbook account has remained dark to this day and will continue to remain dark going forwards. I agreed to two factor verification in the form of email and the five names, if they want to vary that agreement then I consider it to be null and void. I would do the same with Parler if they ever pull that stunt, but it has yet to happen.

So sure... if the requirement to yeild up a phone number is preventing you from registering then meh, I understand your reluctance. Not because I was reluctant to give mine up, but because I was reluctant to give up a bunch of real life identity documents to Zuckerborg. A phone number? Shit, I can have that changed in under five minutes if that ever becomes an issue; handing over stuff that could be later used for identity fraud though? Nah, you're welcome to that party, but I won't be joining you for it.

The thing is that Gab won't be caught quite as flatfooted as Parler was, as the idiot commies already took a run at them already.

Gab spent that time fortifying itself and insulating from the BS parler is going through right now, because thy saw this coming long before the masses did, and now that big tech has made their draconian move against parler, they proved Gab right, and did far more harm to their monopoly than Trump ever could.

Now, as for Gab and parler being sliggish, it could be the massive surge in use. I suspect bitchute as well
        https://www.citizenfreepress.com/bre...s-in-24-hours/

All the big tech jackoffs did was overplay their hand by going after parler the way they did, because they got extremely arrogant. They think that just because the democrats have all 3 chambers, they can just drop the facade and go do what they actually want to do, and that is to maintain a monopoly. Before, they had the threat of the white house reigning them in, but now they are going to be gone, and they have decided to party like it is 1984, and now it is about to bite them right in the ass by a big green frobg they fucked with 3 years ago.

I refuse point blank to use Crapple at this point. I should have done it years ago, based on how they produce their products. And yeah, I know Android based services aren't a whole lot better in that respect, but exactly what options do any of us really enjoy?

I'm seriously thinking of jailbreaking my Samsung Galaxy and 86ing all the Gurgle services I can from it. It's not like I need Gurgle Play services, I can get my map directions from other providers and a good many of my apps can be installed independently of their say-so. One downside is that I will have to go to an unseemly amount of trouble to install Android updates and security patches, but fuck it - if I'm committed to taking a stand then it's worthwhile IMO.

And when the next cunt that comes along demanding I install the latest contact tracing app, I can look them dead in they eye and tell them "no - your friends wanted me out of your society for my Wrongthink and quite frankly, I was only too happy to oblige. Don't presume you can come demanding my adherence to your paradigms now that I'm out - I repudiate them and you."

There was a way I pretty much munged google on my old ace 2 X, and I only did it because jewgle's background shit was slowing it to the pace of snails fucking. I haven't figured out how to do it with my LG K4 as jewgle pretty much locked it down in their later OS's than what my ace 2 X had, and the only way I found how was to root it and install a program. The only reason I haven't done it because I don't want to risk turning my phone into a glorified brick.

Everybody will just have to get more tech savvy in this brave new sillycommie dictatorship.

Yeah, the K4 is an absolute bastard to deal with. I inherited one before I left Canada last year, when I passed my S5 Neo off to a family member when theirs went missing, I pulled out the K4 with an idea of calling it into service as a replacement.

After multiple attempts at factory resets to get it to a point where I might install my old sim card, I gave up and picked up an S9 which is apparently the last S series Galaxy to sport a dedicated headphone jack. I like to listen to music when I'm out and about and Bluetooth shits me no end. The fuck do I want with having to charge TWO devices to hear my Digger and the Pussycats collection when I can go with just one? And leaving bluetooth on drains the phone battery a ton faster anyway, so fuck it. Last generations Galaxy will do me fine.

I've rooted my phone and installed a modified Android from a source I trust. Samsung bitches about not installing updates over a non standard version, that just lets me know it's tiime to go back to my trusted source and look for an update there instead. Easy peasey.

And if I ever manage to brick it, then meh... I can always attempt a factory reset if not a complete reinstall of the OS, or simply buy a new phone and start from scratch. Which to my way of thinking is a price I am prepared to pay for MY liberty.

Yeah, I got my k4 in 2018, and originally got it because my ace 2 X was on its last legs and wanted something to tie me over until I got something a little nicer in 2019, but that didn't pan out due to hour cuts(which was announced to me literally 3 weeks before Christmas in 2018), and I decided socking away some money was a bigger priority than replacing a phone that is only a year old that works perfectly fine. Thank god I did in hindsight. oh well. one of the advantages of a cheap phone is that if something does happen, it wouldn't cost much to replace it. maybe this year I'll look at upgrading and maybe play around with the K4 in terms of rooting it. that way if I brick it, I'm not without a phone which I need for work at the moment. my biggest gripe with mine is storage space, but it does what I need it to do-which is make phone calls and text.

Anything else is just a luxury that I can do without.

lots of websites seem to be "making sure it's you" these days. if you log in with a new local or pc on twitch or steam they send you a email asking you to input a number to make sure it's you on the log on screen

wanted to cash in a 10 gift card using the points gained by clicking emails at mypoints.com and they required a cell phone number so they could text a confirmation ID code to validate it was really me wanting to cash in some points for a gift card. you did not have to do that before, its pretty recent. they expect everyone to have cell phones and texting these days
